It’s almost time for the best summer tradition in Greeley — or at least one of them.
As the Greeley Stampede Independence Day Parade approaches, at least a few eager residents have already begun saving spots along the route along 10th Avenue.
City officials, however, ask that people refrain from saving any spaces until after noon Thursday, July 3.
The parade starts at 9 a.m. Friday, July 4 at Cranford Place on the University of Northern Colorado campus, traveling north up to Lincoln Park and 7th Street.
A city news release asks that parade spot-savers follow these guidelines:
Do not place any kind of tape, strings attached to stakes, tarps, plastic or blankets on the grass, sidewalks or other hard surfaces. Those items become tripping hazards and cause damage to grass and solid surfaces. City park staff will remove any such items. Do not use any kind of paint on the grass, sidewalks or other hard surfaces. Chalk is OK to use when marking spaces on sidewalks and hard surface areas, but do not use it or anything like it on grassy areas. Be respectful of private property. Stay off of lawns and driveways that are not your own and avoid blocking access. Pick up any trash before you leave. The parade route won’t change even with construction underway along 16th Street. The sidewalks at the intersection of 16th Street and 10th Avenue will be open for walking and parade viewing. Construction barriers will be in place to keep everyone safe and out of active work zones. The city requests that nobody move or cross the barriers before, during or after the parade. These barriers are not to be used as seating or to mark off or reserve spots.
The businesses located along 16th Street will be open during the parade.
