Sri Lanka squad for 2nd Test vs Bangladesh announced; Dunith Wellalage, Vishwa Fernando return

Sri Lanka have announced a 19-member squad for the second Test match against Bangladesh, scheduled to take place from July 25 to 29 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo. The selection committee has made two changes to the squad that played the first Test match, which ended in a draw.

Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews has retired from Test cricket. He last played in the format during the recently concluded first Test against Bangladesh in Galle, which ended in a draw on June 21. Notably, the visitors dominated most of the series opener, but rain interruptions denied them a victory.

"The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee has named the below 19-member squad for the second test match," the official statement read.

Sri Lanka have added left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage and pacer Vishwa Fernando to their squad for the second Test against Bangladesh.

Wellalage, who made his Test debut against Pakistan, is being given another chance despite going wicketless in his first outing. The selectors continue to show faith in his potential.

Vishwa Fernando, with 27 Tests and 79 wickets to his name, brings valuable experience to the squad. The conditions in Colombo are expected to favour seam bowling early in the match.

Following the conclusion of the second Test, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will shift focus to white-ball cricket. A three-match ODI series is scheduled for July 2, 5, and 8. The tour will then wrap up with three T20Is, set to be played on July 10, 13, and 16.
