Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah once again made a statement with a gripping spell, delivering a five-wicket haul at Headingley in the first test on India's tour of England 2025.
Though Bumrah excelled at what he does best, his fielders didn't seem to be on par with his performance. The Indian speedster is widely known to be a major threat to batters around the globe.
Throughout his career, Bumrah has earned fame for his sublime accuracy and dominance with both the red and white ball. Though Jasprit Bumrah's final figures of 5/83 might not portray his on-field frustrations, the Indian pace spearhead had to sustain many disappointing moments in the game.
Late on Day 2 and earlier on Day 3, the Indian fielders were not in sync with their bowlers, as there were repeated dropped chances in several fielding positions. Especially, Bumrah was let down by the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, who is known to have the safest pair of hands in the Indian lineup.
Despite multiple drops from Yashasvi Jaiswal as well, Jasprit Bumrah not only posed challenges to English batters but also picked regular wickets. By the end of Day 2, Bumrah had dismissed Zack Crawley, Ben Duckett, and the maestro Joe Root.

Jasprit Bumrah extended his support to his fielding unit with a graceful statement
Post the 3rd day's play, in a session with the BBC, Jasprit Bumrah revealed, "I'm disappointed for a second when catches are dropped. It's part and parcel of the game, and the guys are new and working so hard. I don't want to create a scene and put more pressure on them. Nobody is doing it intentionally, so they will learn from this experience."
Bumrah is currently among the very few senior pros in the Indian Test side, and such a statement not only projects his experience but also shows signs of him being a great leader.
Bumrah's act of not sniffing on his players and going on to do something even better earns him further respect from cricket fans and fellow players.
England bounced back on Day 3 at Leeds despite Jasprit Bumrah's 5-fer
Having posted a big 471, the Indians looked dominant at the end of play on Day 2, with the wickets of Joe Root and Ben Duckett. However, for England, Ollie Pope's hundred was the savior innings.
Harry Brook was dropped twice and, having survived with a no-ball from Bumrah on a wicket delivery went on to give a jolt to the English innings. Brook's 99 and some significant contributions from the English lower order helped them decrease the lead significantly.
Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj picked 5 wickets between them on Day 3; however, the duo kept leaking runs owing to their inconsistent bowling lines and lengths.
A brief yet final spell for Bumrah finished off the tail for England as our very own Boom-Boom once again finished with a 5-fer to his name. Uprooting Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue, he helped India take a 6-run lead into their second innings.
England saw immediate glory in the third innings, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal, the centurion from the first innings. Despite an initial partnership between KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan, Ben Stokes got Sudharsan for the second time in two innings.
Rahul and Gill played the ending half an hour at Leeds and will take command of the Indian innings on Day 4.
At the end of Day 3's play, India could take a lead of 96 runs with KL Rahul and skipper Shubman Gill taking guard of the Indian batting innings.
