The US has entered the conflict with Iran, with President Donald Trump announcing in the early hours of this Sunday morning that attacks had been carried out against three Iranian nuclear sites.
“We executed our highly successful attack on the three nuclear sites in Iran: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan,” he announced, adding, “All aircraft are now out of Iranian airspace.”
“A full payload of bombs was released on the primary site (Fordow), and all aircraft are safely en route home. Congratulations to our great American warriors; no other military in the world possesses such capability.”
In Iran’s initial reaction to the strikes, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated via X (formerly Twitter): “Iran reserves all options to defend itself following American attacks on its nuclear facilities.”
He added that the US, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, “Has committed a grave violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) by attacking peaceful nuclear facilities in Iran.”
“The events that transpired this morning are outrageous and will leave permanent repercussions. Every member of the United Nations should be gravely concerned about this criminal, unlawful, and extremely dangerous behavior,” he stressed.
Araqchi concluded: “In accordance with the United Nations Charter and its provisions allowing for legitimate response in self-defense, Iran reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interests, and people.”
