CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- After a Facebook post sparked concern about the presence of immigration officers at high-profile soccer matches, the Customs and Border Patrol told Queen City News the agency won't have a presence in Charlotte this weekend.
Sunday will be the first of four international soccer matches at Bank of America Stadium that are part of the FIFA Club World Cup. It features Spanish club Real Madrid taking on CF Pachuca from Mexico.
A spokesperson cleared the air on the matter.
“US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has no request for assistance at FIFA Club matches in Charlotte or Atlanta. CBP officers will not be on site.”
This post from last week that has since been deleted, caused some concern that they would be carrying out immigration operations. ICE doesn’t typically announce their operations ahead of time, but to be clear CBP (a separate agency) has no plans to be there. | @Queen_City_News pic.twitter.com/4s860JKTOp

"Let the games begin. The first #FIFAClubWorldCup games starts (sic) on June 14th in Miami, FL at the Hard Rock Stadium. CBP will be suited and booted ready to provide security for the first round of games."
Though a separate agency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement doesn’t typically announce their operations ahead of time.
