Former India National Cricket Team bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has issued a stern warning to the premier right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj ahead of the start of the five-match Test series against the England National Cricket Team.
Mhambrey said that Mohammed Siraj is the most senior pacer in Team India after Jasprit Bumrah, and he needs to step up and deliver good performances in England, sharing the workload with the pace spearhead Bumrah.

India's pace-bowling unit for the five-match Test series against the Three Lions consists of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, as well as two pace-bowling all-rounders, Shardul Thakur and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Bumrah will be available only for three matches in the series, and his absence in two matches will be a major blow for Team India. The management would be hoping that the rest of the pacers will be at their best and deliver supreme performances against Ben Stokes & Co.
In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Paras Mhambrey was asked whether the current Indian bowling line-up is capable of picking 20 wickets without Bumrah. He replied:
"You've got to miss Shami's experience, right? Unfortunately, he is not there on the tour. Prior to this, you had three bowlers, experienced bowlers playing together. You have had Shami, Bumrah. You usually had Umesh in between. We played a lot of cricket together then. You don't have that option out here."
Notably, Mohammed Shami is not part of India’s squad for the England tour because of his fitness issues. During the squad announcement, the BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar had revealed that the pacer was not deemed fit enough to withstand the demands of red-ball cricket.
The second best from here is Mohammed Siraj - Paras Mhambrey
Paras Mhambrey added that Mohammed Siraj is the second-best speedster in Team India and he needs to shoulder the responsibility and get the job done for his side, ensuring that the other pacers do not get under pressure. He said:
"The second best from here is Mohammed Siraj. He has played 35 (36) Tests. He (Mohammed Siraj) needs to share the workload with Bumrah. The expectation shouldn't be that only Bumrah will go out and deliver for you. Siraj needs to shoulder that responsibility and do the job for the team because he is the senior-most after Bumrah out here.
"Someone like Prasidh has only a few Test matches under his belt, and the same is true for Akash Deep. Arsh is on his debut. You don't want to have that pressure on them."
Knowing Bumrah, he is very straightforward - Paras Mhambrey
Paras Mhambrey was further asked if the appointment of Shubman Gill as Test skipper over Jasprit Bumrah took him by surprise. He replied that the BCCI would have discussed the leadership role with Bumrah and, after taking all things into consideration, they took a different route and handed the captaincy to Gill. Paras Mhambrey elaborated:
"They must have had a chat with Jasprit Bumrah and asked him what his plans are. They must have taken into consideration what has happened with Bumrah, the moment he went all out in a five-match Test series.
"Now we know that Bumrah is only fit to play three Tests, so they didn't want to be in a situation where they had two different captains in a big series. Knowing Bumrah, he is very straightforward. He will take everything into consideration in terms of the team first. That's his approach."
