The Greeley area will be under a heat advisory from 11 a.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday, along with communities along the Interstate 25 urban corridor, northeast Colorado and the east central plains.
The National Weather Service forecasts a high near 102 for the Greeley area on Friday, with sunny skies and breezy conditions, including gusts as high as 31 mph. On Saturday, temperatures are expected to reach a high near 96, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
The worst heat is expected to be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, according to the weather service. The advisory suggests drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioning, staying out of the sun and checking up on relatives and neighbors. While outside, people should take extra precautions, including wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing as well as limiting activities to early morning or late evening.
People are also advised to be vigilant for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Signs of the latter include a core body temperature of 104 or higher, confusion or other changes in mental state or behavior, change in sweating pattern, nausea and vomiting, flushed skin, rapid breathing, racing heart rate and a headache, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Though the heat advisory is set to end Saturday night, Sunday is expected to be another hot day with a high near 94.
Greeley’s record high for June 20 is 104, recorded in 2006, according to National Weather Service data that stretches back to 1967. The record for June 21 is 102, also recorded in 2006.
