Some of the world’s longest-hitting golfers will converge in northern Colorado to put their big swings to the test this fall.
The city of Greeley announced Wednesday that Visit Greeley and World Long Drive will team up to bring the WLD World Championships to Bigfoot Turf Farm in LaSalle on Sept. 25-27.
The competition will take place each day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Men’s and women’s division championship rounds are slated for Sept. 27.
The event is free and open to the public. Free parking is also available, according to a city of Greeley news release.
“World Long Drive looks forward to bringing the best hitters of the golf ball from across the globe to Greeley for the World Championships at Bigfoot Turf Farm in September,” WLD chief of commercial officer David Livingston said in the release. “Our new partnership with Visit Greeley will build a strong foundation with the community and showcase the attractive hotels, restaurants and businesses in the area. We intend to put on a great show (perhaps a 500-yard drive) and provide great entertainment for the fans.”
The annual world championships decide the world’s longest-hitting golfers across multiple divisions. Competitors go head to head in bracket-style matchups.
Winners advance based on who can hit the ball the farthest and the straightest.
WLD also plans to host tour events at Bigfoot Turf Farm on Aug. 15-17 and Sept. 3-5, according to the release.
The event in August will include a junior golf clinic for young players just learning the sport. A youth competition will take place after the clinic.
The top 4 boys and top 4 girls from each age group will move on to compete at the world championships.
