The Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy will now be the official prize for all future Test series between India and England, whether the matches are held in India or England, as stated by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) after the unveiling ceremony on Thursday.

Until now, India-England Test series in England were played for the Pataudi Trophy, while the ones in India were played for the Anthony De Mello Trophy. Now, both teams will battle for the single and prestigious trophy that was named after two of the greatest players of all time.
During the trophy launch, both Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson stood proudly next to the shining silverware that carries their action images and engraved signatures. It is not just a new trophy but a symbol of respect for two legends who gave their all to the game.
Pataudi legacy will continue as James Anderson reacts to the honour
The trophy has been created as a joint initiative by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, the Pataudi Trophy name is being retired, but the legacy of the Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi will continue through a newly introduced Pataudi Medal, which will be awarded to the winning captain of every India-England Test series.

The legendary England bowler said, as quoted by ECB on its official website, “To be recognized in this way is a real honor. I’m looking forward to seeing the next chapter unfold in England this summer. It promises to be compelling, competitive cricket—exactly what you’d expect from two great sides. This is elite sport at its finest.”
On the other hand, Tendulkar shared his love for Test cricket, calling it the format that shaped his career. The Master Blaster said that Test matches teach important life lessons like endurance, discipline, and bouncing back from tough times.

Both Tendulkar and Anderson are legends of the game in their own right. Sachin played 200 Tests in his 24-year career, scoring a world-record 15,921 Test runs. He started his journey at just 16 and became one of the greatest batters of all time in Tests and ODIs.
On the other hand, Anderson, who recently retired from Test cricket, played 188 Tests and took 704 wickets, the most by any fast bowler in history. He is the third-highest wicket taker in the world, only behind the spin legends Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne.
