World War II glider pilot Raymond Farris Chambers received full military honors during a funeral service at Fairmount Funeral Home in Denver on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. On what would have been Chambers’ 103rd birthday, he was laid to rest next to his wife Serena, who died in 2001.

She worked with him for over 12 years and often brought her daughters along. Over time, the Holmes family grew close to Chambers, who had no surviving relatives in the Denver area, and the girls came to call him their great-grandfather. Chambers died on May 29.
