TSA blasts flyer for bringing banned vacation item through security checkpoint and warns ‘let this be a lesson’

A PASSENGER nearly copped a $2,500 fine after bringing a banned vacation item through an airport security checkpoint.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) warned that the flammable product cannot be “in your carry-on bag.”

The TSA has alerted flyers to the risk of carrying stoves on board, after its team spotted one at Pensacola International Airport last week.

It warned on social media, “Listen, friends, we love watching cooking shows as much as you do.

“But any top chef has to know that you cannot bring a stove with a propane tank attached through airport security in your carry-on bag.”

It showed a pic of the potentially dangerous cooking item, which has one element.

The TSA added, “The passenger said he was unaware that stoves and propane tanks couldn’t be carried on a plane.

“So let this be a learning moment for everyone… propane tanks cannot and do not belong in either your carry-on or checked bags.”

It praised officials at Pensacola International Airport for spotting the item, which “was hard to miss.”

The TSA said, “Great job by our team for discovering this during standard checkpoint screening on Monday, and educating the passenger on the regulations we have around prohibited items.”

However, comments on social media show there is some confusion about what can and can’t be carried on board.

But the officials explained, “Camp stoves can be carried on, but only if they’re empty of all fuel and fully cleaned so no fuel vapors or residue remain.”

That’s because, according to its strict rules, “any flammable liquid fuel, such as cooking fuel, is prohibited.”

The ban includes transporting cooking fuel in either carry-on bags or checked bags.

What items are barred by the TSA when flying in the United States?

These items are completely barred from both carry on and checked-in bags

Alcoholic beverages with more than 70% alcohol (over 140 proof), including grain alcohol and 151 proof rum Bang Snaps Bear bangers/bear spray Blasting Caps Butane Chlorine for pools and spas CO2 cartridge Dynamite Engines and engine-powered equipment with residual fuel English Christmas crackers Fire Extinguishers and Other Compressed Gas Cylinders Firecrackers and fireworks Flammable liquid, gel, or aerosol paint Flammable paints Fuels – Any flammable liquid fuel, such as cooking fuel, is prohibited Gas torches Gasoline Hand grenades Lighter (fluid and torch) Matches (strike-anywhere matches) Party poppers Propane Realistic replicas of explosives and incendiaries Recreational oxygen – non-medically required, flavored or canned oxygen containers are prohibited Sparklers Spray paint Tear gas Vehicle airbags

It’s part of a lengthy list of barred items, which includes fireworks and flammable paints.

The TSA can impose civil penalties of up to $17,062 per violation per person caught transporting prohibited items, such as dynamite, hand grenades and gunpowder.

Those caught with any flammable liquid or gel fuels face fines of between $450 and $2,570.

Flyers praised the TSA for stopping a possible disaster – with several pointing out that it wasn’t a propane tank but a “butane” one.

Cooking fuel is flammable and shouldn’t be on a plane. Rampant stupidity

However, both types of fuel are banned for flights.

News of the shocking find astounded a flyer who slammed the passenger as the cooking fuel “is flammable and shouldn’t be on a plane. Rampant stupidity.”

One said on social media, “This is truly a weird carry on in the airport. Great catch TSA.”

Another person agreed, saying, “He knew! If you have to bring travel size shampoo you know. Good catch by TSA.”

And a flyer pondered, “A propane tank?!? Someone is sorely lacking in common sense!”

    AIRLINE FOOD

There were also several jokes, “Oh, come on TSA, be considerate. The food I prepare on that mini stove tastes so much better than airline food.

“It’s probably the same type of passenger that takes their shoes off and puts their feet up on the seat in front of them.”

But one person pointed out, “In a country where flyers routinely bring weapons, I find this more amusing than anything.”

    SMITH & WESSON

According to TSA’s “What can I bring?” online tool, tasers, stun guns, and electro-shock weapons should always travel in checked baggage.

On Sunday, officers stopped a woman from Denison, Texas, from carrying a loaded firearm onto an airplane at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.

The Londonderry Police Department which responded discovered a loaded Smith & Wesson 380 firearm, with one round chambered and five rounds in the clip.

The 29-year-old missed her flight as a result.
