ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Seniors aged 55 and older can save money on their cell phone plans with several affordable options available. News10NBC’s Deanna Dewberry explored these plans, highlighting savings opportunities for seniors who take advantage of these offers.
According to the Pew Research Center, 90% of people aged 65 and older used the internet last year. Janet Brady, a 95-year-old internet enthusiast, said, “It’s been wonderful. It’s changed my life.”
Bryan Rogers, an AT&T store manager, explained the benefits of using tablets for seniors, saying, “Being able to see it, large, nice big screen. You can still get all of your text messages, do FaceTime on it.”
AT&T recently introduced a plan for those over 55, offering $35 for the first line and $70 for two lines. Rogers said, “It includes voice unlimited data – 5G data and unlimited text. It also comes with 10 gigs of mobile hotspot.”
Rogers explained the advantage of a hotspot, saying, “Say you’re out and about, you can turn it on, and you can use your cellular data to connect to anything, tablet TV.”
Customers using AT&T’s 55+ plan also qualify for deals and trade-in offers, unlike T-Mobile’s $60 monthly plan, which does not include such promotions.
Consumer Cellular received high ratings from Senior Living Magazine for its $20 plan offering unlimited talk and text, while Live!y offers a similar plan at the same price.
Verizon’s 55-plus plan is only available in Florida, but seniors still have plenty of choices. However, these plans may not be suitable for those with kids or grandkids on their plan due to additional line costs.
