ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Dew points have slowly been climbing, and you’re probably starting to feel the mugginess in the air. This trend will continue on Wednesday ahead of a cold front. Dew points will climb into the upper 60s to near 70. Air temperatures will also climb a few degrees into the mid 80s. Rain and storm chances will begin to go up through the day on Wednesday, with scattered afternoon showers developing, and some rumbles of thunder by evening. A line of stronger storms in Michigan and Ohio will be headed our way late in the evening, but they will be weakening on approach. We’ll get the leftovers, which shouldn’t be anything of concern. The cold front passes through early Thursday morning. Again, the timing of the cold front isn’t great for severe weather locally, so we’re remaining Green on the Threat Tracker.
Following the passage of the cold front, it’ll turn a little breezy and much more comfortable as drier air works in. That will stick around for Friday, with just the slight chance of a pop up shower and temperatures in the 70s.
Then the heat and humidity build again by the weekend, and especially early next week. Temperatures will climb through the 80s, and likely make it into the lower to mid 90s by Monday and Tuesday of next week. Meanwhile, dew points will surge into the 70s. This will make it feel not only uncomfortable, but dangerous if you’re working outdoors for too long. The heat index will likely approach 100°+ Sunday – Tuesday. Some scattered storms will tend to keep our temperatures held back just a little bit by mid to late next week, but signs still point to a very warm and humid airmass overhead much of the week. Now is the time to make sure air conditioners are working well!
