Just like any father would stand up for his son, Ringo Starrisn’t too fond of how The Who treated his son, Zak Starkey. Earlier in the year, The Who fired Starkey after thirty years of drumming for the classic rock band (The Who’s original drummer, Keith Moon, died in 1978).
A representative for the band said they made a “collective decision to part ways with Zak” following a performance at the Royal Albert Hall. But, a few days after sacking Starkey, The Who then un-fired him. Pete Townshend announced that Starkey “is not being asked to step down,” but a month later, Townshend said “the time has come for a change.”
The whole whirlwind process has left a sour taste in his father’s mouth. While discussing the ordeal with Rolling Stone, Starkey said he was “very proud of him standing up for me.
When asked what Ringo said, Zak remarked, “He said, ‘I never liked the way that little man runs that band.’” The “little man” likely referred to lead singer, Roger Daltrey.

Tensions between Daltrey and Starkey boiled over during a performance of “The Song Is Over” at the Royal Albert Hall. Starkey told Rolling Stone that Daltrey “came in four bars early…He just got lost. He blamed it on the drums being too loud, and then it got made into this huge social media thing. And it freaked him out.”
Starkey told RS that the band fired him over dropping two beats while drumming. “I’ve watched that film three times…If I drop two beats, where the [explicative] are they?” he said.

After this emotional roller coaster ride, Starkey doesn’t “hold any grudges” with his friends and former bandmates. He’d also rejoin them if they offered.
“It’s the Who. Weirder [eplicative] than this has gone down,” he said. “I’ve heard them say weirder [explicative] than this. It’s the Who — the maddest band there’s ever been.”
