ROCHESTER, N.Y. – We’ve had somewhat cooler and comfortable temperatures so far this late spring/early summer season, but that will start to change this week. Dew points will begin to climb slightly on Tuesday, making it feel a little more muggy. With the added moisture, we could see a few isolated showers or a storm popping, mainly in the afternoon, and especially in the Finger Lakes.
Our humidity will peak this week on Wednesday, and so will our storm chances ahead of a cold front. The timing of the cold front isn’t conducive for severe weather, so we’re remaining “Green” on the Threat Tracker, but we’ll monitor the timing of the front, and if severe weather becomes a factor, we’ll adjust the Threat Tracker to help you plan. With the added “juice” to the air on Wednesday, any storm that does develop may produce some local downpours. Wednesday will also be our warmest day of the week, with highs in the lower to mid 80s.
Our cold front will pass through on Thursday morning, keep the chance for some showers or a storm around early, then our dew points will tumble, and the wind will pick up, helping to blow in much more comfortable air. Friday remains comfortable and a little cooler, with highs in the mid 70s for the official start of summer.
Then the heat is on, starting this weekend. Humidity starts to rise on Saturday, but you’ll really feel it starting on Sunday. Dew points will likely climb into the 70s Sunday through at least Wednesday of next week. In addition to the humidity, temperatures will be flirting with 90 for a few days early next week. So, start getting the air conditioners in working order now before the big heat arrives!
