Will Wade didn’t take long to fire the first salvo toward rival North Carolina after taking the NC State head coaching job less than 3 months ago.
But it had nothing to do with Wade taking on Tar Heels head coach Hubert Davis head-on. Instead, it had everything to do with how Davis used forward Ven-Allen Lubin before he shocked all of Chapel Hill earlier this month by transferring to NC State to play for Wade.
Davis only played Lubin for 28 or more minutes in 5 games last season at North Carolina, which turned out to be the 6-foot-8 forward’s only season as a Tar Heel. The Orlando product averaged 8.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game, not exactly numbers that moved the needle. Now, Lubin is motivated to move that needle in Raleigh instead of Chapel Hill, and the new Wolfpack head coach is motivated to help Lubin make that happen.
He wasn’t shy about telling everyone either at the One Pack NIL Collective event at Tobacco Road Sports Cafe on Saturday
“Ven is somebody, the other school was too dumb to not play him,” Wade said. “When he plays 28 plus minutes — he’s done that in 23 games — he averages 15 (points) and 8 (rebounds). I don’t know why the hell they didn’t play him but, we’re gonna play him so, he’s gonna average 15 and 8. We’re excited about Ven.”
