Iconic 90s Hip-Hop Duo Performs Together for the First Time in Years

Back like they never left! Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff reunited at the Capital Summertime Ball in London on Sunday, June 15.

Smith, 56, and Jeff, 60, looked straight out of the 90s as they posed together for photos. The pair’s last public outing was at the 2023 Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop.  They later hit the stage to perform mega hits like the theme song from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Smith and Jeff formed the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince in the mid-1980s after meeting at a house party in Philadelphia. Come 1987, they released their debut album, Rock the House, which garnered acclaim thanks to its clean, humorous storytelling style.

In 1988, they released their second album, He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper, which featured the still-beloved hit song “Parents Just Don’t Understand.” The following year, “Parents Just Don’t Understand” won the first-ever Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance.

Of course, we can’t talk about Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff without mentioning “Summertime.” The legends dropped the single in 1991, winning them a second Grammy. Their other notable albums include Homebase and Code Red.

Smith and Jeff’s fame also transitioned to television when Smith starred on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air from 1990 to 1996 and Jeff had a recurring role as Jazz.
