In the early hours of Friday morning, sirens wailed across major cities in Iran. The earth trembled under the roar of Israeli fighter jets as several targets were bombed.
Miles away, deep inside Iranian territory, Israeli intelligence operatives launched attack drones against key nuclear facilities in the city of Natanz. While in Tehran, chaos rippled through the regime’s highest ranks after a spate of precision assassinations.
Among the dead: Iran’s chief of staff of the armed forces, top commanders of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard(IRGC) and several of Iran’s leading nuclear scientists. It soon became clear that this was far more than a standard military strike.
For years, as tensions in the region had been building, Israeli intelligence operatives had been covertly working inside Iran to track nuclear scientists, build explosive drones, and strategically aim mobile weapons systems at key targets.
Friday’s surprise attack, codenamed ‘Operation Lion’, has crippled Iran’s nuclear proliferation campaign from within its own borders.
For decades, Mossad operatives have been credited with innovative attacks on its enemies, including exploding books, remote-controlled machine guns and poisoned toothpaste. Last September, saw the culmination of an Israel attack on Hezbollah supply chains, planting explosives in thousands of the Lebanese terror group’s radios and pagers, killing dozens of officials.

Years of preparation
Friday’s attack on Iran began its birth years ago, according to local reports, when Mossad operatives began drawing up a list of potential targets inside Iran’s nuclear proliferation campaign.
Operatives working inside Iran gathered detailed intelligence and conducted surveillance on senior Iranian officials and nuclear scientists, many of whom fell victim to Friday’s attack, according to Israeli media.
The clandestine operation ran alongside a plot to smuggle mobile weapons into Iran and ready them for a coordinated strike with the IDF. Local reporting from Israel states that Mossad agents moved specialised weaponry into the country on an “extensive scale”, positioning them against Iranian missile defences.
Videos later released by the IDF on Telegram appear to show clandestine Mossad operatives launching drone attacks from within Iranian territory, against key military and nuclear targets.
As part of Israel’s plan to infiltrate Iranian defences, a network of agents reportedly built a covert explosive drone facility deep within Iranian territory well before the attack. The drones were used to strike ballistic missile launchers at a base near Tehran, preventing Iran from firing projectiles at Israel as this morning’s strikes began, according to Times of Israel.

Earlier this year, senior Israeli officials reached out to American counterparts with a plan that would have combined an Israeli commando raid on underground nuclear sites with a bombing campaign carried out by US airforces, according to The New York Times.
Israeli officials wanted American planes to conduct strikes, protecting the commando teams on the ground. But US counterparts were concerned about the plan’s success rate, the paper reported.
Following Friday’s offensive both US and UK officials have staunchly denied any involvement with the Israeli operation.
Strikes at the heart of Iran’s nuclear programme
At around 4 a.m. local time, the first explosions were reported in Iran as more than 200 fighter jets struck dozens of targets. The IDF have labelled this as a “pre-emptive” attack and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a televised statement that “Operation Rising Lion” had struck sites in the “heart of Iran’s nuclear enrichment program”.

Videos and images showed plumes of smoke rising above the facility, while the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed the strike.
Several nuclear scientists were killed in the strikes, including Ali Shamkhani, who has been spearheading a nuclear talks committee. Shamkhani was appointed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and is a former secretary of the National Security Council.

The coordination between the Mossad’s surveillance operation and IDF strikes led to precise targeting of Iranian officials. Strikes targeted buildings said to be the homes of senior military commanders and advisors – with images showing how drones blasted through the walls of high rise blocks.

In conjunction with Israeli air strikes, Israeli media reports that “activation signals” were sent to Mossad operatives hiding inside Iran. The orders saw drones and missiles target key Iranian surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missiles, hampering Tehran’s response to the attack.
The secret operations reportedly neutralised Iranian air defense systems using advanced technologies mounted on mobile platforms. Alongside missiles, videos released by the IDF show explosive drones being fired at the IRGC’s Aerospace Force’s Esfejabad base near Tehran – a key launchpad of Iranian missile defence.
Israeli media reports suggest the drones were positioned “well before” the attack by agents working for Israeli intelligence.
