After a title-laden 12 months, Shreyas Iyer’s luck seems to have run out. 10 days after losing the IPL 2025 final, the Punjab Kings captain suffered yet another setback. Featuring in the Mumbai T20 League, his side, the SoBo Falcons, fell short at the final hurdle at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday.

Captaining the SoBo Mumbai Falcons in the Mumbai T20 League, Shreyas Iyer suffered another heartbreak. Days after losing the IPL 2025 final, the 30-year-old lost his second final. Iyer’s side batted first and put on a modest 157, despite the likes of Iyer and Angkrish Raghuvanshi in the side. The captain himself had a forgettable outing, failing to settle in. He was dismissed for 12 off 17 balls, striking at a mere 70.
The Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals eventually made a rather straightforward chase. Chinmay Rajesh Sutar scored a half-century to guide his team over the finishing line. Shreyas, speaking after the game, said two finals losses was hard to take.
“It’s pretty hectic. Especially when you lose, it runs in your mind a lot. Pretty common to feel dejected after losing the final. It must hurt them. When they come back next year they would be having that motivation and confidence. Overall the boys were brilliant with their efforts. We just lost one game on the way to the final. Just a one-off game where you can’t pinpoint on anyone,” Shreyas said after the game.

Shreyas had a golden 12-18 months in the lead-up to the IPL 2025. The 30-year-old won almost every possible tournament he featured in. Iyer won the Ranji Trophy with Mumbai and led them to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title. He then won the IPL 2024 with Kolkata Knight Riders and the Champions Trophy with the Indian team.
Now, Shreyas has lost two back-to-back finals, ending a golden run. The 30-year-old will now have a short break before he features in the IND vs BAN ODI series in August.
