Anaheim Hills briefs: Make your summer reading count for prizes and learning

A summer reading program, “Color Our World,” kicked off earlier this month at all Anaheim Public Library branches and is open to all ages.

Participants have the opportunity to read books over the summer and earn amazing prizes. Those wishing to be part of the annual summer reading program should sign up on the Beanstack app or go into Canyon Hills Library to register.

The summer reading program ends on July 27.

Hills library branches have activities planned

There are several fun programs planned this month at both the Canyon Hills and East Anaheim library branches for kids and families.

On June 17, a special storytime with Megan the Bubbleogolist and her gigantic bubbles starts at 11 a.m. at the Canyon Hills branch.

A Juneteenth celebration begins at 4 p.m. on June 19 at the Canyon Hills branch. This special event includes storyteller Iwalani, who will share music and stories to celebrate this holiday.

Kids will have the chance to laugh and learn about dinosaurs in the fun-filled The Dinosaur Who Cried “Asteroid!” puppet and magic show at 2 p.m. on June 28 at the Canyon Hills branch.

For more information about these programs, call 714-765-6444.

The East Anaheim Branch Library is hosting a meet and greet with Rapunzel for its summer reading kick-off party beginning at 11 a.m. on June 18, and all kids are invited. This event also includes crafts and a sing-along.

Get city updates for Anaheim Hills

Anaheim’s Community Service Department will host the next community meeting for District 6 (Anaheim Hills) at 7 p.m. on June 19 at the East Anaheim Community Center. And the community is invited.

Attending a district community meeting offers residents an opportunity to interact with city staff members from various departments such as Neighborhood Services, Police and Fire, Public Utilities and Public Works. Anaheim’s Chief Communication Officer Mike Lyster will present general communication information, including on Anaheim Anytime, which is available for residents to report issues within city neighborhoods such as street light outages or graffiti as well as other concerns 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

Lyster will also discuss the Know Your Way evacuation routes. A fire evacuation survey, specific to Anaheim Hills, will also be available that evening.

Residents will have an opportunity to ask questions following staff presentations. Visit Anaheim.net for more information.

Shop books and more to help the library

The Friends of Canyon Hills Library has planned the next flash book sale for June 17 and 18.

A variety of fiction, nonfiction and specialty books, as well as other items such as puzzles, will be available to purchase, all at bargain prices. Don’t forget to check out the antique and specialty items in the glass cases located in the lobby of the library.

All book sale proceeds enable the nonprofit Friends group to provide various programs and services for the benefit of the community. The sale will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at the branch.

For additional information about the book sale or the Friends group, contact the library at 714-765-6444.

You can get involved with July 4 fun

Plans are currently underway for the Anaheim Hills Fourth of July celebration and registration is open for those wishing to participate in some of the fun activities.

The Firecracker 5K/10K Run will start at 7 a.m. from Canyon High School. Or you can enter your dog in the Yankee Doddle Dog Show or register an entry in the Disneyland Fourth of July Parade starting at 1 p.m. from Canyon High School.

In addition to these events, the day will include food booths, entertainment and an exciting 9 p.m. fireworks show at Peralta Park.

For registration or additional information, visit Anaheim.net/fourth-of-july-celebration or call 714-765-4456.

    Share in Anaheim’s legacy

Members of the Ebell Club of Anaheim are encouraging Anaheim residents of all ages and backgrounds to participate in a new unique project.

The “2025 Legacy Box” will be taking submitted stories, poetry, photos or drawings to be included and remain in the “time capsule” until 2050. These items can represent personal reflections on one of the 2025 benchmarks, such as five years since COVID-19 emerged; the first 25 years of this century; the 50 years since the fall of Saigon; or the 70 years since the opening of Disneyland or other memorable events.

Since Anaheim is rich in history, Ebell historical items will also be included in the 2025 Legacy Box.

This project is part of the Ebell club’s upcoming Community Enrichment Section and any questions or additional information should be directed to Hilary Lacher at [email protected].
