India Batting Coach

Former Saurashtra batsman and captain Sitanshu Kotak is the current India batting coach. Kotak was not a part of the original backroom staff that was appointed in 2024 when Rahul Dravid and other assistant coaches' tenure came to an end.

Gautam Gambhir was named the new head coach in 2024 while Morne Morkel, Abhishek Nayar, and Ryan ten Doeschate were appointed as the assistant coaches. The BCCI roped in Kotak as the India batting coach in January this year just before the home series against England.

He was appointed as the India batting coach after India's horrible display with the bat against New Zealand and Australia that saw the team lose 6 out of 8 Tests. The board appointed Kotak after a review meeting to assess the team's poor performance in recent series. Later in April, the BCCI sacked Nayar and gave the whole responsibility of batting coach to Kotak.

After ending his playing career, Kotak did not wait long to try his hands at coaching. Kotak began his coaching career by completing Level 1 and 2 coaching courses from both the BCCI as well as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

In 2014, he landed his first major coaching job when he was appointed as the head coach of the Saurashtra team. Kotak went on to enjoy a successful journey with the domestic team. With Kotak as head coach, Saurashtra won the Ranji Trophy in 2020.

In 2019, he was also appointed as the head coach of the India A team when Rahul Dravid stepped down and took over as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Kotak has also served as a batting coach at the NCA in addition to plying his trade as an assistant coach for the now-defunct IPL side Gujarat Lions.

In 2023, he was a part of the backroom staff whenever VVS Laxman took charge of the team as an interim coach. During that phase, Kotak toured Ireland and South Africa with the Indian team.
