With the senior men’s international break over, attention turns to the opening stages of the Under-21 European Championship in Slovakia, with three of the five outright favourites for the crown in action on Thursday.
Aside from the action in Slovakia, there is a crucial second leg in the Spanish Segunda Division promotion play-offs to consider, with Mirandes and Racing Santander level on aggregate after a six-goal thriller in the first leg.

Bet of the day – Mirandes to win at 11/10
Mirandes let a 3-1 lead slip in the first leg of this Spanish Segunda Division play-off semi-final, with a 98th-minute own goal from Julio Alonso locking the scores at 3-3, but Thursday’s hosts will be quietly confident of getting the job done on home soil.
The fourth-place finishers head into this tie having won five and drawn two of their last seven matches, and their last defeat at the Estadio Municipal de Anduva came all the way back in October.
They have won 12 of their 16 home games since then, while Racing Santander have won away from home only once since January.
The visitors, who finished fifth in the regular season, have lost on four of their last six trips, and they lost both meetings with Mirandes in the regular season.
Special of the day – Ukraine U21 double chance, Both teams to score in Finland U21 vs Netherlands U21 & Germany U21 to win – 13/5
Ukraine U21 have avoided defeat in their last two meetings with Denmark U21 and beat them 3-2 in 2023. They have lost only one of their last five games in the build-up to this competition, while the Danes head to Slovakia winless in their last four matches.
Finland U21 are big underdogs in their U21 Euro 2025 opener, but they have scored in their last nine matches and should get on the scoresheet against a Netherlands U21 outfit who have conceded in three of their last five matches.
Germany U21 are among the favourites to lift the U21 European Championship this summer and begin the campaign unbeaten in 15 matches, with 12 of those having ended in victory. Underdogs Slovenia U21 are winless in four and lost to Finland U21 in March.
Long shot of the day – England U21 to win 2-1 at 13/2
England U21 manager Lee Carsley has taken a squad with plenty of top-level experience to Slovakia, with Premier League regulars such as Tino Livramento, James McAtee, Omari Hutchinson, Jack Hinshelwood, Harvey Elliott, and Ethan Nwaneri included.
They are justified favourites to beat Czech Republic U21, but they have conceded in five of their last seven matches and could be vulnerable at the back against a side who have failed to score in only three of their last 12 games.
The Young Lions beat Czech Republic U21 by a 2-1 scoreline in June 2022, and a repeat of their 2-1 win over Ukraine U21 last year could be in store.
