Former India skipper and head coach Rahul Dravid has spoken on the tragic Bengaluru stampede that left 11 dead. The stampede broke out during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory celebration earlier this month.
The Bengaluru-based outfit secured its first-ever IPL title with a win over Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final on June 3. After winning the trophy, the franchise announced a victory parade, but the police did not give permission. However, later on June 4, the franchise once again announced that there would be a parade followed by celebrations in the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

What promised to be a joyous occasion turned into a nightmare as chaos descended outside the stadium due to the stampede. It eventually left 11 people dead and more than 30 seriously injured.
Rahul Dravid on Bengaluru stampede:
Rahul Dravid has called the tragic incident 'very disappointing', saying that the stampede left him heartbroken. The legendary batsman was all praise for Bengaluru's passion for spots and said that such a tragic incident should not have happened in the city.
"Very disappointing. It's very sad. Bengaluru is a sports-passionate city. I come from here. People over here love all sports, not just cricket. They follow all the sports and also all the sporting teams, be it a football team or a kabaddi team. It's really heartbreaking that such an unfortunate incident happened," Rahul Dravid told NDTV.
"Our thoughts go out to everyone for unfortunately lost their lives and those who were injured. Such a tragedy shouldn't have happened," he added.
Rahul Dravid, who led RCB in the past, was also associated with the IPL this year. The former cricketer was the head coach of the Rajasthan Royals. It was his first assignment since he stepped down as India's head coach last year.
However, the Royals could not do well this season and failed to progress ahead of the league stage. They hardly looked in contention to make it to the playoffs as they struggled with their form throughout the season. In the end, the Sanju Samson-led side finished at the ninth spot in the points table with just 4 wins from 14 games. They will be looking to bounce back next season.
