ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Showers and thundershowers are already moving into Western New York tonight. But the News10NBC First Alert meteorologists do not expect any severe weather this evening. This is not the main weather event, but rather a prelude to potentially heavier rainfall that arrives later Monday and Monday night. As humidity levels rise over the next 24 hours, this increase in moisture will interact with an approaching front. This front will be the focal point of heavier showers and thunderstorms arriving by 1:00 PM, possibly lasting until 10:00 PM. The greatest threat will be localized flooding as any repetitive storms will have an opportunity to bring heavy amounts of rain. Right now, it appears the highest likelihood of urban and stream flooding could be south of Routes 5 and 20 and communities east of the Genesee Valley into the Finger Lakes. Remember, if it develops do not attempt to cross any flooded roadways. Due to this threat, News10NBC has issued a yellow alert for Monday afternoon and evening. Latest modeling shows between an inch to an inch and half of rain is possible. Rainfall should then taper off and move east later Monday night.
