Aaron Ramsey will sign for Mexican side Club Universidad Nacional to continue his playing career despite speculation over his managerial future.
The former Arsenal midfielder took charge at boyhood club Cardiff City for their final three games of the 2024/25 season.
Ramsey was a leading candidate for the full-time role in Wales but is now set for a completely different move.
The PA agency have reported that the 34-year-old is heading to Club Universidad Nacional, who play in the top flight of Mexican football.
It could boost his chances of playing for Wales at the 2026 World Cup having previously hinted his intention of making their squad.
“There’s a lot to play for and that World Cup is a massive carrot being dangled,” he said in April.
It is now back to the drawing board for the Bluebirds, who are still yet to appoint a full-time successor for Omer Riza.
They had been interested in Charlton boss Nathan Jones, but he committed his future to the Addicks by signing a new long-term contract.
