KL Rahuls batting position in England Tests locked after magnificent 100

KL Rahul continued his stunning form as he began his England tour with a fluent century in the second and final unofficial Test match between India A and England Lions on Friday, June 6, at the County Ground in Northampton.

KL Rahul delivered a timely reminder of his class and composure with a sublime century for India A against the England Lions, just days before the much-anticipated five-match Test series, starting on June 20 in Leeds.

He has not only anchored the innings but also showcased his full range of elegant strokes, proving he's ready for the upcoming Test series.

Facing a formidable bowling unit led by experienced England pacer Chris Woakes, the right-handed batter brilliantly dealt with the pace and movement with ease.

This knock gave KL Rahul much-needed red-ball game time and confidence ahead of the five-match Test series between England and India. This series will mark the start of the new WTC 2025-27 cycle.

The Karnataka batter scored a patient 116 runs from 168 balls, hitting 15 fours and a six against England Lions in the ongoing second unofficial Test. When India A lost early wickets, he built a solid 86-run partnership with Karun Nair (40) to steady the innings in Northampton.

After Karun Nair’s dismissal, Rahul shifted gears and played more attacking shots. He then added 121 runs for the fifth wicket with Dhruv Jurel (52), helping India A reach 319/7 in 83 overs on a rain-hit opening day against England Lions. At stumps, Tanush Kotian (5) and Anshul Kamboj (1) were at the crease in Northampton on Friday.

George Hill manage to get the better of KL Rahul

After batting for 273 minutes with full focus, Rahul finally made his first mistake that cost him his wicket. Rahul leaned forward to drive a good-length ball from George Hill but played away from his bodyon the opening day of the second unofficial Test on Friday.

The ball moved away after pitching outside off stump, and a thick edge flew to second slip, where Emilio Gay took a sharp catch to end Rahul’s gritty innings at the County Ground in Northampton.

Rahul was clearly frustrated with himself. However, the wicketkeeper-batter has certainly gotten a big relief after kicking off the English summer with the stunning century.

In India’s last Test series, Rahul was also impressive against Australia in the BGT 2024-25, and he continued his brilliant form with the bat in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and then IPL 2025 and now against England Lions, which only locked him as the opener for the upcoming five-match Test series after Rohit Sharma’s retirement.

Notably, back in 2021, KL Rahul had begun his England tour with a century in a warm-up match against the County Select XI.

However, he batted in the middle order at that time. Later, he was promoted to open alongside Rohit Sharma and played a key role in India’s strong start to the Test series.

His memorable moment came at Lord’s, where KL Rahul scored a brilliant century in the first innings and was named Player of the Match, earning a spot on the honors board at the iconic venue.

With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Tests, Rahul is now the most experienced batter in the Shubman Gill-led India squad, and it seems that he is ready to carry the big responsibility.
