AARON Rodgers has finally signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but some are skeptical about the fit.
Legendary Miami Dolphins quarterback and Pittsburgh alumni Dan Marino wants to make sure Rodgers really wants to be a Steeler.
Rodgers and the Steelers have been flirting for months, and finally got a deal done this week ahead of mandatory minicamp.
It solves the team’s glaring quarterback problem, but Marino is more concerned about the team’s culture.
“But you gotta have someone that really wants to play there,” he told 93.7 the Fan.
“And he’s getting older. So I don’t know what his mindset is.”
While Marino is unsure about Rodgers’ culture fit, he won’t contest that he can still make a huge impact with his talent.
“But he does still have talent,” Marino said.
It took ages for Rodgers to make his decision about signing, but it seems personal issues were at the forefront of that.
He revealed on Joe Rogan‘s podcast that he had close ones dealing with illnesses.
“I’ve figured it out during the last year when I’ve been in the weeds with these people who are close to me that have cancer,” Rodgers said.
He originally revealed some of his personal struggles in April to Pat McAfee.
“I wasn’t stringing anyone along. I wasn’t holding anyone hostage,” Rodgers said.
“I was honest from the jump about where I was at mentally and some of the constraints I have in my life right now that warrant my attention.
“I’m open to anything and attached to nothing. Retirement could still be a possibility, but right now my focus has been — and will continue to be — on my personal life.
“And that’s what I’ve told the coaches. There’s still conversations that are being had.
“It’s all been very honest lines of communication.”
