ESPN’s Reid: ASU’s Sam Leavitt a top QB to know in 2026 NFL Draft class

Quarterback Sam Leavitt continues to earn national recognition this offseason after helping take Arizona State to the College Football Playoff last year.

Fresh off becoming an EA Sports College Football cover athlete alongside head coach Kenny Dillingham, Leavitt found himself in ESPN analyst Jordan Reid’s top tier of quarterback prospects to know for the 2026 NFL Draft.

Leavitt was a revelation last season after transferring from Michigan State … leading the Sun Devils to a Big 12 championship and the College Football Playoff. He’s a calm and poised passer whose 80 QBR was the 10th-best rate in the FBS. Leavitt always seems to be in control and consistently makes the correct play from the pocket. He’s at his best in play-action, as he can turn his back to the defense and reset his eyes to make throws.

Leavitt didn’t waste any time settling in at Arizona State last season, completing 61.7% of his throws for 2,885 yards and 24 touchdowns to six interceptions. He added another 443 yards and five scores on 110 carries.

His play was critical to Arizona State’s run to the Peach Bowl and an 11-3 finish in Dillingham’s second season as head coach.

The signal caller is expected to lead Arizona State’s offensive charge with running back Cam Skattebo now a member of the New York Giants.

Skattebo may be off to the NFL, but Leavitt still has Jordyn Tyson, who is coming off 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns on 75 catches, to work with in Tempe.

Where does Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt need more work in Jordan Reid’s eyes?

Leavitt has only 13 career starts, so the sample size is relatively small. He tends to be too bouncy in the pocket and needs to be more consistent in taking options that are available to him early in progressions. He’ll also face a lot more pressure this season, with star running back Cam Skattebo off to the NFL and the Sun Devils not being a sleeper team anymore after their conference title win. Leavitt will be counted on as the catalyst of Arizona State’s offense.

Who else cracked Jordan Reid’s top 2026 QB prospects list?

Joining Leavitt in Reid’s top-names-to-know tier included:

    – Drew Allar, Penn State – Carson Beck, Miami – Cade Klubnik, Clemson – Arch Manning, Texas – John Mateer, Oklahoma – Fernando Mendoza, Indiana – Garrett Nussmeier, LSU – LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina

    Here’s a look at the Reid’s best-of-the-rest tier:

    – Rocco Becht, Iowa State – Aidan Chiles, Michigan State – Taylen Green, Arkansas – Mark Gronowski, Iowa – Eli Holstein, Pittsburgh – Josh Hoover, TCU – Nico Iamaleava, UCLA – Kevin Jennings, SMU – Avery Johnson, Kansas State – Haynes King, Georgia Tech – Darian Mensah, Duke – Miller Moss, Louisville – Sawyer Robertson, Baylor
