UFC 316 preview
As mentioned, Sean O’Malley is looking to exact revenge in his rematch with current bantamweight title holder Merab Dvalishvili.
Dvalishvili’s gruelling victory in the Las Vegas Sphere last September was only O’Malley’s second of his career and he’s been forced to wait a long time for this rematch.
Dvalishvili successfully defended his title against Umar Nurmagomedov earlier in the year before confirming O’Malley’s shot at redemption would be next.
O’Malley has since revealed some drastic lifestyle changes in the hope he arrives in New Jersey in the best shape possible.
A title fight precedes it too, with Julianna Pena and Kayla Harrison fighting for the women’s bantamweight.
Harrison is going for the title for the first time, having only made her promotional debut back in April, where she comfortably beat Holly Holm at UFC 300.
Her professional record is 18-1.
Despite being the current champ, Pena believes she’s already been written off and the odds certainly suggest she has it all to do to maintain her title status.
Joe Pyfer is the favourite in an all-American clash with Kelvin Gastelum.
The middleweight clash is a chance for Gastelum to improve his current record, where he’s lost almost 1/3rd of his bouts to date (20-9) and doesn’t come into this one in good form with three defeats from his last five fights.
Patchy Mix makes his UFC debut earlier in the night when he faces Mario Bautista in a bantamweight clash.
It was revealed last month that Mix had parted ways with PFL and the next day UFC announced he’d replaced Marlon Vera.
The first fight of the main card sees American Kevin Holland face Brazil’s Vicente Luque in the welterweight division.
The pair have a 52% and 48% KO/TKO record of winning, respectively and this one could be an epic to kickstart the main events.

Revenge
He’s had to wait a while for it, but Sean O’Malley can get the revenge he’s after when chasing gold this weekend.
The depths he’s gone to in altering his lifestyle mean he’s feeling “better” in himself and looks in prime condition to reclaim his title.
Height and reach exceeds Dvalishvili, who has twice as many losses as O’Malley and will have learned plenty from the September loss.
Sean O’Malley to win at 11/5Statement
“I know you’ve got nothing to lose, I know that you’re going to throw the kitchen sink at me because you have no idea how you’re going to beat me, and I’m going to put a hurting on you.”
The words of Kayla Harrison who comes here as the challenger but also the overwhelming favourite.
The demolition of Holly Holm showed she’s not here to mess around and can get the job done early here too.
