The 2024/25 Nations League concludes this week, with the four semi-finalists descending on Germany for the Finals. Two of those teams, Spain and France, will go head-to-head in Stuttgart on Thursday.

Spain are the European champions and the holders of this trophy, but les Bleus arguably have the strongest squad in the world. Who will come out on top in this one?

    Spain vs France predictions

The domestic season is over and the Club World Cup is fast approaching, but the focus over the next few days is on the international game.

There are World Cup qualifiers taking place in Europe and beyond, while a trophy is up for grabs for four sides as the 2024/25 Nations League reaches a conclusion.

Germany will stage the four-team Finals this week, with the hosts, Spain, France and Portugal ready to battle it out for silverware.

Germany face the Portuguese in the first semi-final on Wednesday, before these two sides go at it in Stuttgart 24 hours later.

Spain are the holders having won the previous edition of the competition in 2023. They then followed that up by triumphing at last summer’s European Championship. As things stand, they look like the strongest side in the world.

They are not the favourites to win the Nations League, however (that status belongs to Germany, in large part because they will benefit from home advantage). Spain also face a tricky last-four tie against France before they can begin thinking about adding another trophy to their collection.

Les Bleus qualified for the Finals by topping their group and then defeating Croatia on penalties in the quarter-finals following a 2-2 draw on aggregate.

Spain, who previously finished first in their group, also required spot-kicks after a 5-5 tie with the Netherlands over two legs.

This is a tough match to call. Spain were deserved winners of the Euros last summer and they have continued in the same vein since then.

Luis de la Fuente is an unassuming figure on the touchline, but he has fashioned a collective which plays like a club team in terms of its balance and coherence. This Spain side has a fine blend between individual talent and group ethos.

France can never be written off, though, as Didier Deschamps prepares to enter the final 12 months of his lengthy tenure. As ever, Deschamps has an embarrassment of riches at his disposal, with French football continuing to churn out top-quality players in virtually every area of the pitch.

Both teams will take this mini-tournament seriously, although fatigue could be a factor for some players at the end of a long, hard season.

    Spain vs France betting tips

Spain and France face off in the semi-finals of the Nations League Finals on Thursday night.

    Spain to win

Deschamps led France to World Cup glory in 2018 and they have also won a Nations League on his watch.

Yet you cannot help but wonder if les Bleus might have been better served had he stepped down after Euro 2024.

During that competition France looked like a team in desperate need of fresh ideas. With the sheer amount of talent at their disposal, Deschamps’ safety-first outlook is no longer the optimum approach.

France are still capable of beating any other national team in the world on their day. But Spain are a more fluent, impressive unit right now.

Both teams suffered scares in the quarters, but we have more faith in Spain producing a complete performance here.

Tip Spain to win at 11/8 with Tote

    Under 2.5 goals

France remain a cautious side under Deschamps, who seldom lets his players off the leash. Expect the French to sit deep and cede possession on Thursday.

Spain will make most of the running here, but that does not necessarily mean they will be able to prise open France’s backline at will.

Spain often prioritise control above all else, a strategy which translates to keeping the ball for long periods and patiently probing for gaps.

De la Fuente’s men can go toe-to-toe with opponents if they need to, but that is unlikely to be required against France.

All of which points to a low-scoring encounter at the MHPArena.

Lamine Yamal to score any time

What a season Lamine Yamal has had.

The teenage sensation won La Liga and the Copa del Rey with Barcelona as one of their most important players under Hansi Flick.

Barca were not quite able to go all the way in the Champions League, but Yamal was sensational in their semi-final defeat by Inter.

There is an argument to be made that Yamal is already the best player in the world at the tender age of 17.

France will have to be at their most defensively secure to contain the forward in this one.

Choose Lamine Yamal to score any time at 3/1 with Sky Bet
