The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a fresh statement on the tragic incident that happened during the IPL 2025 victory celebrations of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) will soon take a call on how future victory celebrations will be held where large crowds are expected.

Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally managed to lift the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy in the 18th edition of the competition.
RCB defeated the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3, and the victory filled the fans of the Bengaluru-based team with joy as they had been waiting for this moment for a very long time.
The emotions ran high after the match as the modern-day great Virat Kohli was left in tears, and the fans went berserk with the celebrations across the streets of Bengaluru.
RCB, a few hours after the triumph, announced the victory parade in Bengaluru along with other celebratory events at the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium.
However, things took a deadly turn as the crowd turned in large numbers outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, and a stampede-like situation was created. The stampede around the stadium killed 11 people and injured 33 as the police officials failed to control a jam-packed crowd.

Speaking to The Indian Express, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that the tragic incident in Bengaluru is an eye-opener for the board and IPL franchises, and they will have to make a big decision on how such celebratory events will be held in the future.
He also revealed that till now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had no control over private celebrations of franchises. Devajit Saikia said:
“This is eye-opener and we have to think about what we should do in such situations. There will be a winner every year and there will be a celebration in their home city. So we have to learn a lesson so it doesn’t happen in the future. At this moment, the BCCI has no control over the private celebrations of a franchise.
"Yesterday (Tuesday), we had 1,32,000 people at the Narendra Modi Stadium. We took care of every minor detail about safety and crowd management, and there was not a single incident even though all the stands were full. There was proper policing and control. Something went terribly wrong today in Bengaluru but the BCCI has no role to play,” Saikia added.

In another interaction, Devajit Saikia expressed his shock at the incident and made a similar kind of statement about the Board of Control for Cricket in India taking control of such celebrations in the future.
"We hope good sense will prevail, and in future, whoever organises such events will follow the necessary protocols after having proper due diligence. The authorities are responsible for such celebrations. After the IPL is over, BCCI directly has no role to play," he said as quoted By Hindustan Times.
"That is why we are a little bit more shocked. Maybe we'll have to think about the future because every year, there will be celebrations by the winning team in some cities. Maybe we'll have to do some soul-searching and some brainstorming sessions to set some norms on how things can be celebrated so that in future this kind of tragedy is not repeated," Saikia added.
