Fire personnel will begin live-fire training exercises in the unincorporated community of Boulevard in southeast San Diego County on Wednesday.
The training will last until at least Thursday and will be held in the area of McCain Valley Rd. and the I-8.
Smoke will be visible throughout the county and Imperial County.
“Live-fire training is essential for firefighters to learn techniques and hone their skills before the fire season,” Cal Fire said in a statement.
“This class offers students the opportunity to utilize specialized tools and equipment commonly used in wildland fires and prescribed burns.”
Fire engines and hand crews will be on the scene to assist with mop-up and extinguishing hot spots once training is completed, fire officials said.
According to officials, the live-fire training would also benefit up to 65 acres on the McCain Valley Live-Fire Training Site and surrounding areas by removing dead or dying vegetation.
