Intruder Arrested After Allegedly Breaking Into Royal Family Compound

The royal family avoided a close encounter with an intruder.

On June 1, an intruder attempted to break into the grounds of Windsor Castle, where Prince William and Kate Middleton live with their children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 6, Thames Valley Police confirmed to NBC News.

“At just after 1 p.m. on Sunday a man has entered restricted grounds at Windsor Castle,” the authorities told People in a statement. “He was quickly challenged by Met police officers and arrested. He did not enter the inner grounds of Windsor Castle.”

The name of the intruder was not revealed, but police confirmed he is a man in his thirties. The individual was arrested on suspicion of trespass on a secure site and possession of class A drugs.

"He has been bailed and an investigation is ongoing by Thames Valley Police." the authorities added.

It is unclear if any members of the royal family were at the residence at the time of the incident on June 1.

This is not the first instance of an intruder at the estate - where William and Kate moved to from Kensington Palace in 2022. In October 2024, two masked raiders broke into farm buildings on the Windsor estate while the Windsors were at their home nearby.

Another break in occurred shortly before the family moved in. In 2022, a man posing as a priest spent the evening at the castle indulging in food and drinks and was even given a place to sleep at the property.
