ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The community is rallying around the family of a 5-year-old boy who fell into the Genesee River after climbing a railing on Sunday. The search for the boy has entered its third day.
News10NBC’s Kristi Blake saw hundreds of people on the bridge with items to show the family they care.
The boy’s mother, who spoke off camera, said, “He is just the best little boy.” She expressed gratitude for the community’s support.
Felicia Riley said, “{The community} has shown that they are here, we see that the community do show up when it’s time to show up.”
Dan Bookhart said, “It didn’t quite hit me until I actually came down here and saw the site myself. And then I went home and like, I got to do something.”
Bookhart DJed on the bridge for hours Tuesday, saying “music helps pull him out of a “music brings me out of a depression. So I hope it just inspires people.”
Joe Willis said, “I think if it were me and I knew that people were out here, they would, you know, warning of what happened. I think that that would help in the recovery process.”
The search has been a collaborative effort involving Rochester police, fire, and state officials, who have been searching both the water and ground. So far, no significant findings have been reported.
