Arrested Development Star Is Almost Unrecognizable in New Photo

David Cross is back on-screen, but if you haven't kept up with the actor since he portrayed Tobias Fünke on Arrested Development, you may not recognize him.

This week, it was revealed that the 61-year-old teamed up with an unlikely celebrity of sorts for a new comedy series that aims to "bridge the political divide," according to an official description shared with Parade.

The Emmy-winning comedian stars opposite renowned climate scientist Michael Oppenheimer for the U.S. debut of Climate Science Translated, per a June 3 press release, which goes on to describe the British video campaign as a short series pairing "humor with science to cut across the partisan divide and remind us that in reality, most Americans want to prevent the devastating impacts of climate change."

In promotional photos released with the series, Cross bears barely any resemblance to the time in his life when he played the clean-shaven, Blue Man Group-obsessed, former psychoanalyst and psychotherapist Arrested Development character.

Pictured next to Oppenheimer, 79, Cross is rocking a much thicker, full beard and mustache–a stark contrast from the style many fans may remember from him.

Aside from the difference in grooming habits, not much else has changed regarding Cross–except for maybe the type of roles he's accepting.

In this new campaign video series, though he remains "sharp-witted" and comical, the subject of conversation with the Princeton University professor is a rather divisive topic. But it was a challenge Cross didn't mind taking on, or so it seems.

"The climate crisis doesn’t care how you voted - even Republicans want a planet to live on, and as long as it’s not Mars, we have that in common," Cross said in a statement. "Data and charts haven’t worked for climate scientists, so maybe it’s time to try some unrestrained swearing. I’m happy to oblige."

His co-star in the special agreed, explaining that Cross' hilarity could just be the key to getting more people to care about the importance of climate science and understanding its findings.

"At a time when climate science is under attack, we scientists need all the help we can get to reach more people," Oppenheimer added. "Comedians and humor can cut through polarisation and spark the urgency needed."

The new video series starring Cross and Oppenheimer is currently available to stream online.
