Country Star Mourns Second Tragic Death of a Spouse

A country singer is mourning the second tragic death of a spouse.

Lorrie Morgan, 65, told People on Sunday, June 1, that her husband of 15 years, Randy White, 72, has died of cancer.

"Randy has been my partner and my rock for 17 years. Our big, wonderful family and I are devastated at the loss of this truly kind and incredible man. I was blessed by his love. Ran-Ran, I will love and miss you forever," Morgan said in a statement shared via her friend and manager, Tony Conway.

Morgan's son and fellow country singer Jesse Keith Whitley shared a remembrance of White on his Facebook page, writing, "As I sit here in the room with hospice, I don’t know really what to think or to say about this situation. But, I can say that the recent years of my life all the way back to when I was 22-23 years old, this great man has been here and loved my mom, and also me & my sister as [if] we were his own."

Whitley continues, "He has been the best grandfather for my kids they could ever ask for…He has shown unconditional love to my mother and been the most gentle soul to ever grace this entire family. As we say our goodbyes, I reminisce of all the good times we have had & the battles he has helped overcome."

This is Lorrie Morgan's second tragic loss of one of her husbands. Famously, in the 1980s, she lost her husband, Keith Whitley, to alcohol poisoning when he was just 34 years of age and Lorrie was just 29. Whitley was the father to the above-mentioned son Jesse, and he also adopted Lorrie's daughter Morgan from her first marriage.

Lorrie Morgan canceled all of her upcoming concerts and appearances after White was hospitalized in April. She had announced that White was undergoing treatments for cancer a year prior to that.

She said at the time in a Facebook post, "We deeply appreciate the prayers and well wishes, and for continued support and privacy as we focus on Randy's health and on our family at this time."
