A legendary singer/songwriter was nearly unrecognizable in a rare public outing in Beverly Hills over the weekend.
Joni Mitchell, 81, the 11-time Grammy-winning singer/songwriter, was spotted out and about in Beverly Hills over the weekend, where she signed autographs for her fans. See the photos here.
Mitchell has not been in great health in the last 10 years. She suffered a near-fatal brain aneurysm in 2015. She has also said that she suffers from Morgellons disease, which the Mayo Clinic says is a "delusional parasitosis" condition in which people believe "they're infested by parasites, mites, worms or other organisms even though a physical examination by a healthcare professional doesn't support this idea." People who have Morgellons often report they feel as if something is crawling on or stinging their skin.
Mitchell now often performs sitting down or even in a wheelchair, as was the case at the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala at the Beverly Hilton back in February, where she performed one of her biggest hits, "Both Sides Now," and also a stirring rendition of the song "Summertime."

When she was honored at the 2021 Kennedy Center Honors, Mitchell addressed her health battles, saying that having polio at the age of nine was "a rehearsal for the rest of [her] life."
"I’ve had to come back several times from things. And this last one was a real whopper. But, you know, I’m hobbling along, but I’m doing all right!” said Mitchell.
Mitchell has won Grammys for, among others, Best Folk Performance, Best Pop Album, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, and Album of the Year, plus she was honored with the Grammy's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.
Mitchell's biggest hits include "Big Yellow Taxi," "You Turn Me On, I'm a Radio," "Help Me," "Free Man in Paris," and the aforementioned "Both Sides Now."
