Rep. Evans’ stance on foreign aid neglects global and local needs

As a resident of Greeley and a constituent of Colorado’s 8th District, I am concerned about Rep. Gabe Evans’ limited support for foreign aid initiatives. He has expressed strong backing for aid to Israel but has maintained his position to challenge assistance to other nations as a whole. To me this raises questions about how our votes are being represented in Congress and if that proves a commitment to global stability and humanitarian efforts.

Foreign aid is not merely an act of charity, it’s a strategic investment in global health, economic development, and security. Programs that combat poverty and disease abroad can prevent conflicts, reduce the need for military interventions, and foster markets for American goods. This aid often constitutes a small fraction of the federal budget, often less than 1%, but yields significant returns in terms of global stability.

This message is meant to highlight the importance of addressing global poverty and emphasize that informed foreign aid can lead to a more secure and prosperous world. I urge Rep. Evans to broaden his perspective on foreign assistance, recognizing its value not only for the countries we aid but also for the long-term interests of the United States and the community of Greeley.

Why irrigate after so much rain?

I admit, I am not a farmer, but as someone who understands that water is precious in our state, I was amazed to find a farmer running two center pivots between Eaton and Ault on Weld County Road 33 on Thursday. Again, I’m not a farmer, but we have received over 2 inches of rain this week in this area. Why would they be pumping water to water their crops? Do they have poor soil? Is their crop water-intensive?

I understand they have water rights that allow them to pump thousands, if not hundreds of thousands gallons of water, each year, but why waste it if mother nature has provided over 2 inches in the past four to five days?

Republican budget will mean lost health insurance

Voters should be aware that the proposed Republican budget bill would cause 26,257 people in District 8 to lose their health insurance. (These numbers are based on the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office analysis about legislation released on May 11 by House Republicans.)

This means 7,400 people losing Affordable Care Act coverage and 18,857 people losing Medicaid coverage. Nationally, Republican cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act would result in roughly 13.7 million people losing their health insurance by 2034.

Rep. Gabe Evans voted in favor of this. If you are not happy about this, please contact Rep. Evans and let him know.
