Chennai Super Kings (CSK) young batter Dewald Brevis has showered praise on MS Dhoni following their campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The South African cricketer described Dhoni as a living legend, adding that the former India captain is always open to conversations.
Dewald Brevis was brought in as a replacement player by Chennai Super Kings for the IPL 2025 season. He emerged as one of the few bright spots for the franchise. CSK endured a dismal campaign, securing only four victories in 14 matches and finishing last on the points table for the first time ever.

In a video shared by talkSPORT Cricket on X (formerly known as Twitter), Dewald Brevis spoke highly of MS Dhoni. He added that Dhoni has exceptional knowledge of cricket, adding that it is great to learn from him and share a dressing room with him.
"He's incredible. He's as fit as any player out there. He always has time for you. You're always welcome to go to him, have a chat, talk about cricket, life, anything. He's a real living legend, and his knowledge of the game is incredible. He has vision and can see things unfolding even before they happen. It's great to learn from him and play alongside him."
Dewald Brevis' Performance for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025
Dewald Brevis scored 225 runs in six games at an average of 37.50 and a strike rate of 180. He brought much-needed energy to the middle order, helping to stabilize a struggling CSK batting lineup.
Brevis, who previously played for the Mumbai Indians in 2022 and 2024, went unsold in the 2025 IPL mega auction. However, CSK brought him in as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh. Notably, the right-handed batter scored 291 runs in 12 matches for MI Cape Town in the SA20 2025 season.
Apart from Brevis, Ayush Mhatre and Urvil Patel were also brought in as injury replacements. The performances of these replacements gave fans optimism for the 2026 season. CSK can choose to retain all three players ahead of the upcoming mini-auction.
CSK Miss Playoffs Despite MS Dhoni Taking Over Captaincy
Chennai Super Kings began the IPL 2025 season with Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain, but he was ruled out after just five games due to injury. MS Dhoni then took over leadership, yet the team's struggles persisted, and they failed to qualify for the playoffs. CSK endured their worst season ever.
The campaign ended on a high note with a convincing 83-run win over the Gujarat Titans. Dhoni scored 196 runs in 14 matches at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 135.17.
Dhoni’s future playing career remains uncertain, though CSK retained him for ₹4 crore under the 'uncapped player' category ahead of the 2025 mega auction. This marks the second straight season CSK missed the playoffs, following their fifth IPL title in 2023.
