Merseyside Police have named the suspect behind the Liverpool title parade crash on Monday and charged him with seven offences.

The scenes in Liverpool after the incident were shockingAFP

And Merseyside Police have now named the alleged suspect as Paul Doyle – a married 53-year-old and local businessman.

In total, he has been charged with seven offences, which includes two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

That is in addition to two counts of causing unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm as well as one count of dangerous driving.

Doyle will appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ court on Friday.

Chief crown prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service Mersey-Cheshire, Sarah Hammond, issued a reminder that ‘the investigation is at an early stage’ as they pore over ‘a huge volume of evidence’.

“It is important to ensure every victim gets the justice they deserve,” Hammond added.

Speaking on Thursday, Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims of Merseyside Police insisted detectives are ‘working tirelessly’ to get to the bottom of the horrific incident.

“Merseyside Police is determined to gather as much evidence as possible to ensure that every avenue is explored,” Sims said.

“Now that Paul Doyle has been charged, we ask that the judicial process be allowed to continue without any speculation online or elsewhere that could impede the pursuit of justice for all those affected.”

Sims also confirmed the 79 people who were injured at the parade remain in constant contact with Merseyside Police officers and staff, with seven still in hospital.

The age of the victims ranged from nine to 78 years old.

“This continues to be a large and complex investigation and detectives are reviewing a huge volume of CCTV and mobile phone footage submitted by the public and businesses, as well as footage from our own body worn cameras and dashcams,” Sims added.

“We are extremely grateful for the ongoing cooperation of the public who have, and continue to, share their footage and witness accounts with detectives. Their input is vital to our ongoing enquiries.”
