Champions League prize money: How much can PSG or Inter Milan earn by claiming glory and being crowned kings of Europe

PSG and Inter Milan are set for a huge financial boost when they meet in the Champions League final this weekend.

The French and Italian giants are set to clash in Munich for the right to be crowned kings of Europe.

Inter saw off Barcelona 7-6 in one of the greatest Champions League semi-final ties of all time to reach the finale.

Davide Frattesi scored what proved to be the winner in extra time at the San Siro after a late Francesco Acerbi equaliser saved Simone Inzaghi‘s men.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain saw off Arsenal 3-1 on aggregate, with Fabian Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi scoring in the home leg to ensure that the French side made the final.

And both are set to bank a huge chunk of money.

    Champions League prize money

All 36 clubs that competed in the League Phase banked €18.62m (£15.6m) for participating.

Then €2.1m (£1.7m) was handed out per win during that phase and €700,000 (£587k) per draw.

Each position in the table was worth €275,000 (£230k).

That meant the team that finished second last in 35th claimed double that at €550,000 (£461k) through to €9.9m (£8.3m) for the table-toppers.

The top eight raked in a €2m (£1.6m) bonus, with clubs that finished ninth to 16th earning €1m (£830k).

The prize money for reaching each knockout round only increases as well, with those reaching the play-offs getting £840,000.

    Knockout round play-offs – £840,000 Last-16 – £9.3m Quarter-finals – £10.6m Semi-finals – £12.7m Runner-up – £15.6m Winner – £21.1m Inter are guaranteed at least £15m for reaching the Champions League finalAFP

Aston Villa, Liverpool and Arsenal all reached the last 16, but the Reds were eliminated at that stage by PSG, and that meant their reward was £9.3million.

For reaching the quarter-finals, Villa secured £10.6million before suffering the same fate as Liverpool at the hands of PSG.

Arsenal thrashed Real Madrid to reach the semi-finals and that earned them a whopping £12.7million.

But they don’t get the chance to earn the biggest prizes because they are out.

£21.1million is the prize for the Champions League winners, while runners-up are handed £15.6million.

Performance-related prize money accounts for 37.5 per cent (€914m, £766m) of the overall pot, with UEFA‘s newly created value pillar taking up 35 per cent to split up broadcast revenue, and the final 27.5 per cent being shared between the 36 clubs.
