McDonald’s customer begs chain to ‘help our pockets’ after ‘ridiculous’ price hike skyrockets item from $4 to $13.89

A DINER has blasted McDonald’s for a price increase on a beloved menu item this month.

They were stunned by the uptick and pleaded with the fast food giant to make changes and help consumers save money.

GettyA customer was left stunned at the cost of their McDonald’s meal (stock image)[/caption]

“Hey.. can you get with @DoorDash and fix this?” the longtime McDonald’s customer asked in a post on X.

    “This makes absolutely no sense!”

“If you’re not going to make America healthy again you could at least help our pockets … this is ridiculous!!!” they added.

Included in the post was a screenshot of the DoorDash order they made from their local McDonald’s.

The receipt showed a Double Cheeseburger (McDouble) with no mustard, diced onions, or pickles, priced at $3.99.

DoorDash’s delivery fee alone was just as much as the burger at $3.99.

Fees and estimated tax were listed at $3.91, and the customer selected a tip for the Dasher of $2.

That ultimately brought the total to $13.89, nearly a full $10 more than the initial cost for the Double Cheeseburger.

    SOME CONSIDERATIONS

Of course, even if the customer had gone in person to get the beloved McDonald’s burger, it would’ve cost more than $3.99 after taxes.

DoorDash, as a business, also has to turn a profit and pay its drivers.

That means diners must pay for the convenience the company offers to order delivery on their phone from most restaurants nearby, depending on where they live, in minutes.

Still, an argument could be made that an additional $10 is steep.

It might not be worth it for a $3.99 item where the price is doubled immediately with the delivery fee.

Ultimately, the decision will come down to consumers’ budgets and personal preferences.

    NOT ALONE

It wouldn’t be the first time this complaint has popped up recently, specifically with McDonald’s orders through DoorDash.

Another customer attempted to get a Double Cheeseburger Meal with a large Hi-C Orange fountain drink and French fries for $9.39, but saw a significant uptick.

After a $2.49 delivery fee, taxes of $4.22, and a $2.50 tip for the Dasher, the total reached $19.60.

A promotion took off $1 to bring it to $18.60.

Aside from DoorDash orders, McDonald’s prices have come under scrutiny, in general, from some customers since 2023.

Outraged diners spotted an $18 Big Mac meal and another a 40-piece Chicken McNuggets Bundle for $25.39.

Since then, the fast food giant has taken significant steps to offer value-based options for customers at its over 13,600 locations nationwide, including through the McValue Menu and $5 Meal Deal.

The US Sun also recently spoke with an expert who told us that there are at least five trends keeping fast food prices high.

Workers at some top chains are also still struggling to afford to eat meals at the restaurants where they work this year.
