STARBASE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — After a series of failed Starship test flights that went down in flames, quite literally, Elon Musk's SpaceX is set to launch its ninth Starship test flight on Tuesday evening.
As previously reported by Nexstar's ValleyCentral, SpaceX's Tuesday launch will focus on Super Heavy, which is said to be a reusable rocket.
Last week, the Federal Aviation Administration approved the Starship vehicle for another launch, with the FAA saying May 22 that after a review of "the SpaceX Starship Flight 8 mishap," the administration determined SpaceX had satisfactorily addressed the causes. SpaceX said in March that its own investigation of Flight 8 determined a hardware failure caused an accidental mixing of fuel in one of the engines, igniting it. This resulted in engine failure and explosion, said Space X.
According to SpaceX, the next opportunity to launch from Earth to Mars opens in late 2026.
"SpaceX was founded with the goal to make life multiplanetary and develop the technologies needed to make this goal a reality. SpaceX is developing the Starship launch system, the worlds first fully rapidly reusable rocket in south Texas newest city, Starbase," the SpaceX website reads.
CEO Musk is also expected to speak to his employees and the community Tuesday night about alleged plans to build a human presence on Mars.
The Starship Flight 9 test launch is expected to begin around 7:30 p.m. ET.
