Jac Caglianone has baseball fans ready to see him get the call to the big leagues. The former Florida star, however, is not in any rush to make his MLB debut.
Ahead of his home AAA debut in Omaha, Caglianone was asked about the inevitable call from the Kansas City Royals.
“It’ll happen when it happens,” Caglianone told reporters on Tuesday.
Caglianone has crushed minor-league pitching. He hit 9 home runs in 175 plate appearances with AA Northwest Arkansas. He was recently promoted to AAA, hitting 5 homers in his first 6 games with the Omaha club.
Understandably, baseball fans want to see Cags in the show. Royals fans are itching to see how he can contribute to the big-league club. Outside the Kansas City faithful, plenty of baseball fans are interested to see what he can do facing major-league pitching.
Caglianone is on board with the organization’s approach to his professional career.
I do think they have my best interest at heart,” Caglianone said, per The Athletic. “It alleviates the pressure of the ‘when.’ I just take it day by day.
Beyond the joy of watching Cags crush the ball, there are other reasons to keep an eye on Kansas City’s plans. Despite not having made his MLB debut, Caglianone is in the top 10 when it comes to AL Rookie of the Year odds. At BetMGM, Caglianone opened at +3000 and remains there. He has the 8th-best odds at the book, offering bettors the chance to turn a $100 wager into a $3100 payout if he wins the award as a current longshot.
The Caglianone situation will remind some baseball fans, particularly those with SEC allegiances, of Paul Skenes. Skenes also opened with +3000 odds. The former LSU flamethrower did not make the Opening Day roster, but had a sensational season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and won NL Rookie of the Year.
Skenes got the call on May 11. With Caglianone playing AAA ball on May 27, the clock is ticking on his chance to be named 2025 AL Rookie of the Year.
