UC Irvine police are searching for a man suspected of committing a rape on campus earlier this month.
The repoirted sexual assault occurred at about 11 p.m. on May 16 at Camino Del Sol student apartments, at 33000 Arroyo Drive, according to a police statement issued on May 17.
UC Irvine Chief of Police Liz Griffin wrote in the statement that the victim was walking in the residential community when an “unknown suspect forcefully pushed the reporting party on the ground and raped them.”
Griffin added that the victim described the suspect as a white male with dark hair, a medium build, wearing a dark t-shirt and a navy blue hat, and estimated his age to be about 35 to 40 years old.
The victim also stated that the suspect was driving a dark-colored Acura. Officers canvassed the area after receiving the report and did not find the suspect or the vehicle.
No arrests have been made as of Tuesday, May 27, said Tom Vasich, Senior Director of Communications & Media Relations at UCI.
The disclosure of the alleged rape was made in accordance of the Clery Act, a federal law that requires colleges and universities to report campus crime data, support victims of violence, and publicly outline the policies and procedures to improve campus safety.
