Batting first, Dewald Brevis (57), Devon Conway (52), Ayush Mhatre (34), Urvil Patel (37), Shivam Dube (17), and Ravindra Jadeja (21) made amazing contributions to guide CSK to a big score of 230/5.
Defending the total, Chennai Super Kings bowled out GT for 147 in 18.3 overs to register a dominant win with Noor Ahmad and Anshul Kamboj bagging three wickets each.
Speaking to Harsha Bhogle after the match, MS Dhoni hinted at his return in IPL 2026. MS Dhoni said that he has 4-5 months to make a decision on his IPL future. He said:
"I have 4-5 months to decide, there's no hurry. Need to keep the body fit. You have to be at your best. If cricketers start retiring for their performance, some of them will retire at 22. Will go back to Ranchi, enjoy a few back rides. I am not saying I am done, I am not saying I am coming back."
CSK faced a crushing loss to GT in their previous clash
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a crushing 35-run defeat against Gujarat Titans (GT) in their previous IPL clash on May 10, 2024, in Ahmedabad.
They won the toss and chose to field first, but had no answer to the onslaught from the GT openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, who stitched up a 210-run stand.
Tushar Deshpande was the only bowler to pick wickets in the innings for CSK as he dismissed both centurions - Gill (104 off 55) and Sudharsan (103 off 51) - but GT managed to post a huge score of 231/3.
Chasing 232, CSK had a horror start with Ajinkya Rahane, Rachin Ravindra, and Ruturaj Gaikwad falling within the first three overs, leaving them at 10/3. A brilliant 109-run partnership between Daryl Mitchell (63 off 34) and Moeen Ali (56 off 36) helped CSK recover, but after their dismissals, things went downhill for the team. Despite an explosive cameo from MS Dhoni (26* off 11), CSK finished at 196/8 to face a heavy loss.
