Three items completely banned from Greyhound even in your under the bus bags – you face being thrown off immediately

MEMORIAL Day weekend marks a major travel period for the tourism industry and if you’re preparing for your getaway, you want to do it right.

As millions of Americans and tourists are set to board Greyhound buses across the country, there are three items that if brought on board, could cut their trips short.

To make sure the unofficial start of summer kicks off without a hitch, knowing what not to pack is vital, and at least one banned item will surprise you.

Greyhound prioritises the safety of its drivers and passengers and it is for this reason that several items are prohibited.

This is the case even if they are in bags that will go in the hold of the bus and will not be accessible during the journey.

    BANNED ITEMS

While on planes a number of items can go in the hold that are not allowed in the cabin, the bus company’s rules are a little different.

First, and perhaps most surprisingly, passengers are not permitted to bring alcohol onboard Greyhound buses.

It is not allowed to be drunk onboard or packed in any bags with the bus company having a zero-tolerance approach to the substance.

This is to keep the driver and passengers safe and in a orderly environment.

Secondly, and for the same reasons, all illegal substances are also banned from Greyhound.

It should be noted that marijuana is banned onboard regardless of individual state rules.

Lastly, passengers must not pack any weapons or hazardous materials.

This includes, guns and firearms, martial arts and self-defense items, and flammable or explosive materials.

Every Greyhound ticket includes free baggage with each passenger getting space for one carry-on bag and one stored bag.

A full list of what is and is not permitted on board and what can go in your checked baggage is available here.

“Bringing prohibited items onto a Greyhound bus can result in serious consequences, including the confiscation of the items, fines, or even legal action,” the company warns.

What kind of bag should I bring?

Greyhound recommends the following baggage to keep belongings safe and secure during the trip:

Suitcases Backpacks Duffel Bags Trunks Toolboxes Securely tied cardboard boxes

    * Not recommend are plastic or paper bags or baggage with items sticking out.

“It is essential that you are aware of these restrictions.”

Greyhound reserves the right to remove passengers from the bus if they are found to be carrying any of these prohibited items.

Passengers can also be removed or prevented from boarding for unruly or disruptive behaviour.

“This is a stickler for us – no unruly behavior on the bus,” Greyhound states.

“No shouting, being loud, or generally disturbing the driver or other passengers. Just chill out, be nice and enjoy the ride.”

Other rules include staying seated at all times unless going to the rest room, no smoking onboard, no animals unless they are service pets, and no taking photos, videos, or recordings of Greyhound staff.

Meawhile, a major airline has announced a strict new luggage ban due to fire fears.

Travelers set to take flights this summer have also been warned to avoid a 15-minute airport hack that has gone viral online.

What can be in my stored bag on Greyhound buses?

The following items are prohibited from carry-on baggage with Greyhound but can go in the storage below the bus:

Glass bottles and containers Metal cutlery Box cutters Knives (any length and type except round-bladed, buffer, and plastic cutlery) Razor-type blades (such as box cutters, utility knives, razor blades not in cartridge, but excluding safety razors) Scissors with metal pointed tips Sports equipment like baseball bats, bows and arrows, golf clubs, pool cues and spear guns Tools including drills, hammers, saws and screwdrivers
