Arsenal could splash out more than £100million as they look to sign Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi for next season.

The Gunners are set for a busy summer transfer window as they look to end their 22-year wait for a league title.

Mikel Arteta’s side have fallen short in the title race for a third successive season this term.

However, the Spaniard is already eyeing silverware in the upcoming campaign.

He has not lifted a trophy since winning the FA Cup in 2020, with this season’s run to the Champions League semi-final the closest they came this time around.

Arteta told reporters on Sunday: “Liverpool have a trophy – we don’t have a trophy.

“We are unsatisfied and upset. But I think we are on the right trajectory.

“What I can promise is that I will do my very best [to win a trophy] and I will give my life, and get every drop of everybody here to squeeze it and get the best out of them.”

His hopes of a trophy are set to be boosted by the arrival of compatriot Martin Zubimendi.

Arsenal are understood to have struck an agreement to sign the midfielder back in January.

A £51million move will see the Euro 2024 winner leave Real Sociedad for the Emirates Stadium after making 47 appearances this season.

Meanwhile, the Gunners lead the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.

The Swedish striker is one of the club’s leading attacking targets as they look to sign a new centre-forward.

Gyokeres scored 53 goals in just 51 appearances this term, including 39 in the league to fire Sporting to the title.

The arrivals of Zubimendi and Gyokeres would allow Arteta to name a number of exciting line-ups next season.

Here are two ways the Gunners could shape-up during the 2025/26 campaign.

Same system, new stars

Arteta has been synonymous with his favoured 4-3-3 formation in recent seasons.

The Arsenal boss’ tactic sees a dynamic midfield trio supporting both the defence and attack.

Zubimendi’s arrival could even give more freedom going forward to both Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard ahead of him.

Thomas Partey has largely been the option to complete the three-man midfielder is currently out of contract this summer.

Meanwhile, Gyokeres would lead the line with Bukayo Saka on the right wing.

Arteta currently has Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli as his options on the left, but could also deploy Ethan Nwaneri on the flank.

Using the target man

The arrival of Gyokeres will give Arteta a completely different profile in attack to his current options.

Arsenal’s existing strikers, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, offer far less of a physical presence to the prolific Swede.

As a result, Gyokeres is more than capable of leading the line on his own by holding the ball up as his team-mates get forward in support.

His ability in the role will allow Zubimendi and Rice to play as a midfield pair behind Odegaard.

The two wingers would also start deeper before overlapping to receive the ball once Gyokeres has laid it off to the Norwegian playmaker.

For Sporting, the 26-year-old plays in a system consisting of a back three and four-man midfield, with both wing-backs and wingers attacking from out wide.

However, he is used to being supported by an attacking midfielder for Sweden.

Gyokeres has 15 goals in 26 caps for his country, including a four-goal haul in their 6-0 thrashing of Azerbaijan in November.
