Dave Allen lined up for huge Deontay Wilder clash after vicious Johnny Fisher KO: ‘It could happen’

Dave Allen could fight Deontay Wilder this year.

That’s according to Allen himself, who has revealed messages with promoter Eddie Hearn that indicate he could step into the ring with Wilder at the end of 2025.

Allen exacted revenge on Johnny Fisher in his last fight, knocking ‘The Romford Bull’ out with a thunderous left hook in the fourth round.

This came after he suffered a controversial defeat to Fisher on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury 2 in December.

‘The White Rhino’ was subsequently crowned the new WBA inter-continental champion and has been suddenly thrust into contention for some huge heavyweight bouts next.

“I text Eddie Hearn and said, ‘Why don’t we get a few wins and then box Wilder?’” Allen said on Instagram.

“Eddie replied saying, ‘It could happen, yeah.’ Genuinely, for some reason, bizarrely in 2025, Dave Allen could box Deontay Wilder.”

“[Wilder’s] not the fighter he was, but it’s still crazy that it could even be an option.

“They are the sort of fights that would really get the best out of me.

“It’s dreamland really, and definitely a fight I would love.”

Allen was unlucky not to get the decision in his first meeting with Fisher, but made sure there was no doubt after his second performance.

He has since secured a new contract with Matchroom, and the promotion’s chairman Hearn clearly has big plans for their new heavyweight star.

Hearn now promoted Allen, as well his old foe FisherGetty

“When the contract came through for the Fisher rematch, if I beat Fisher, I had to sign a two-fight with Matchroom,” Allen concluded.

“But in all honesty that’s a great position to be in. The plan is to box in September and maybe defend the title I just won.”

Wilder, meanwhile, has the opportunity to revive his career when he faces Tyrell Herndon in Kansas next month.

He has looked a shadow of the man who floored Fury in their first meeting, before taking on ‘The Gypsy King’ two more times between 2018 and 2021.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ has lost four of his last five fights, having been shockingly stopped by Chinese powerhouse Zhilei Zhang in June last year.

This came six months after he suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Joseph Parker, which derailed what many had hoped would be the result of the fight: a blockbuster meeting with Anthony Joshua.

Wilder has the chance to reignite his career against Herndon in June

    Deontay Wilder's record

    Last Five Fights

L – Zhilei Zhang via TKO (round five) in June 2024 at Kingdom Arena, Riyadh

L – Joseph Parker via unanimous decision (12 rounds) in December 2023 at Kingdom Arena, Riyadh

W – Robert Helenius via KO (round one) in October 2022 at Barclays Center, Brooklyn

L – Tyson Fury via KO (round 11) in October 2021 at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas

L – Tyson Fury via TKO (round seven) in February 2020 at MGM Grand, Las Vegas

Wilder had signed to fight ‘AJ’ and the event was set for an imminent announcement, until he was beaten by Parker.

Should Wilder defeat Herndon in his next bout, a clash with Allen makes perfect sense.

However, talkSPORT’s Gareth A. Davies has laid out a different path for Allen.

He believes ‘The White Rhino’ could box the the winner of David Adeleye and Jeamie Tshikeva’s proposed rematch for the British Boxing Championship.

“A British title shot is not a step backwards,” he said.

“They could put him on the five vs five card against David Adeleye [if he beats Tshikeva].

“That is a great fight. David Adeleye is a big puncher, but he has shown vulnerabilities against Fabio Wardley.”

Host Adam Catterall added: “In this time now, people are earning their rights and shots, then yeah make it.

“It might be a step too far for him, but he’s certainly earned the right to have a go at it.

“He absolutely went through the gears when he got Johnny Fisher hurt and it was an elite finish.”
