‘I’m not going’ – Jurgen Klopp categorically rules out job with European giant

Jurgen Klopp will not become the next Roma manager.

The legendary Liverpool boss rubbished reports linking him with the Italian giants in spectacular fashion on Friday night.

Klopp has not expressed any interest in returning to coaching since ending a glorious nine-year Anfield reign at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Since the beginning of 2025, the German has been working as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull.

Nevertheless, rumours in Italy have suggested Klopp could become the next manager of Roma.

Current boss Claudio Ranieri is expected to step into a director role this summer after guiding the Yellow and Reds to a fifth place finish in Serie A.

But speaking at an LFC Foundation event, Klopp categorically ruled himself out as a replacement.

“I’m not going to Roma,” he said.

“If you come across any rumors suggesting that I will take a coaching job in the next few years, it’s bull***. You can say that first.”

Ranieri recently revealed that Roma have already struck an agreement with a new manager, but stopped short of giving a name.

The former Leicester boss said: “The new coach? My brother called me and said, ‘But will you at least tell me? Everyone asks me!’ And I said, ‘That’s why I’m not telling you, so the word doesn’t get around’.

“I also said to [Antonello] Venditti (Italian singer and Ranieri’s close friend): ‘You’ll know on July 1st’. He said, ‘But if he arrives in July, he doesn’t know the players’. ‘I’ll explain them to him,’ I told him.

Klopp could not have been clearer

“The agreement with the new coach is already in place. The president will decide when to announce his appointment.”

In other news, Klopp addressed Trent Alexander-Arnold’s controversial Liverpool exit at the Gala Ball on Friday night.

The 26-year-old defender, who broke into the first team and won everything under Klopp, is set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer after spending his entire career at Liverpool.

Despite his achievements, fans have been left disappointed with Alexander-Arnold for running down his contract to join a European rival – with some choosing to boo him in recent games.

But Klopp sees it differently. The 57-year-old said: “I don’t want to tell anyone what they should think, I don’t want to say what you have to think, but I can tell you what you think is wrong.

“I am an old man and I don’t waste time with hiding my opinion.

“I watched the game when he came on and I heard the booing. I’m old, so it may be my hearing, so I turned up the volume and said ‘That’s booing’.

“I needed another 10 seconds to realise and then I switched the telly off. I honestly could not have been more disappointed in this moment. This is not us, 100 per cent.

“I don’t tell you you should not be disappointed or angry, I tell you ‘Don’t forget’. This club does not forget. We are famous for not forgetting.

“We don’t forget anything: we don’t forget the good thing and we don’t forget the bad thing. But we ignore the bad things and remember the good things.

“You don’t have to be happy he is going but don’t forget what he did for this club because I can’t forget it.”
